Valley of Fire National Park Las Vegas, NV

Valley of Fire Taking an hour drive north of Las Vegas, you come to one of the most beautiful areas in the world. You enter The Valley of Fire National Park, it is oldest state park in Nevada. It opened in 1935, there are 34,880 acres. The name Valley of Fire comes from the red sandstone formation, they were formed, during the dinosaur age. They look as if they are on fire. You will see many forms of rock art left by the Anasazi, an ancient pueblo people; they were farmers in Moapa Valley, from 300 B.C. to A.D. 1150. They would have used this land for hunting, food gathering, religious ceremonies; lack of water would have made long stays impossible. Many movies have used this location: Captain Kirk from Star Trek Generation lost his life in a fall. There are picnic areas, hiking. There is no off-roading allowed. Get in your car, bring your hiking equipment, cameras, and of course, all the important things that belong at a picnic. Have a great time! Kathy Las Vegas, NV
